FARMINGTON — The man police say bit off his mother’s nose has been charged.
On Wednesday, St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney Wendy Wexler Horn charged 20-year-old Shane M. Cole of Bismarck, with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. His bond is set at $125,000.
According to police reports, Frieda Cole told police that she was asleep on the living room couch Monday night. She woke up and noticed Shane cutting himself at the kitchen table. She told him to stop and he attacked her, biting off the tip of her nose and stabbing her in the leg.
Police responded to a call of a possible stabbing and found Frieda Cole at the end of the driveway with blood covering her face and shirt.
Police found Shane Cole, who had injuries to his face and arm, lying on the floor in the bathroom. When police tried to handcuff him, he attempted to resist. He told police he did not remember what happened.
Frieda Cole was taken by helicopter to a hospital in St. Louis for her injuries.
Shane Cole was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are believed to be self-inflicted. He was later taken to a mental health facility.
If convicted of these charges, he could be sentenced up to life in prison on each of the first two counts and up to four years on the resisting charge.
