LEADINGTON — Pancakes and sausage, a present, and a visit with Santa Claus — what more could you want on a Saturday morning.
Leadington VFW Post 5741 Commander Joe Briley said the Breakfast with Santa has been a Christmas tradition for about 15 years.
“Every year we treat children and their parents or whoever brings them to breakfast,” he said. “The ladies (auxiliary) give them a free gift and a free photo (with Santa) and we provide them with an apple and an orange. It seems trivial, but the way food has gone up ...”
Hundreds of children showed up. The Marler family was among them. Kindrik, 3, didn’t quite know what to think about being placed on Santa’s lap. He didn’t want to look at the camera but his 2-month-old brother, Dametri, dressed as Santa, was very camera-friendly. Sister, Lizzi, 6, and older brother, Dedrik, 9, also sat on Santa’s lap.
When asked who was the most excited about Christmas, Dedrik said he was. He’s got a lot of big items on his wish list. He wants an Xbox 360, a Nintendo Wii, a pocket knife and a crossbow.
Kailyn Ligue, 13, and Jennifer Wells, 14, also sat on Santa’s lap.
In the back, Police Chief Cledith Wakefield and Sgt. Rick Pogue were preparing pancakes and sausage with the help of a few from the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary.
There was also juice and milk. The juice was provided by Country Mart of Farmington while Prairie Farms provided the milk.
The event was sponsored by the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary and junior girls, and the City of Leadington.
