DESLOGE — Carriage rides through Desloge Park were just as big of a hit as Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Desloge Christmas in the Park on Saturday.
Dozens of children and their parents waited their turns for a ride in one of two horse-drawn carriages.
“The carriage rides are always very popular,” said Librarian Jill Kaufman.
Santa Claus and his wife arrived in the park on a Desloge fire truck.
Friends, Louis Cook and Reagan Delano were excited about seeing Santa Claus. They both want an airplane from him.
Kenny Delano wanted a four-wheeler while Erin Cook wanted a Hannah Montana. Irene Delano said she wanted a baby doll and another friend with the group, Lydia, wanted makeup and a dollhouse.
Families were treated to hot cocoa, snack cakes and cookies. Belgrade State Bank also had free popcorn.
At 2 p.m., there weren’t many children at the Parents As Teachers craft table. Children had their choice of making necklaces, Christmas cards or decorating Santa pictures.
Brooke and Dylan Boyer, who went to the Leadington VFW Breakfast with Santa in the morning, enjoyed making necklaces at the Desloge event.
“It’s not as cold as it has been in the past,” said Vicki Cook of Parents As Teachers, who has braved snow and rain in past years. “... This is nice. This isn’t bad. That wind is something, though.”
The event was organized by the Desloge Library Board.
