Candidates add names to ballot
City and school board elections set for April

Filings for the April election opened Tuesday.
Three people have filed to fill two seats on the Mineral Area College Board of Trustees in the April election.
Scott Sikes and Kent Marler have filed for Subdistrict #1, which includes portions of Madison, Ste. Genevieve, Perry and St. Francois Counties.
They seek to replace Elvin Sikes, who is retiring after 30 years on the Board, representing Subdistrict # 1.
Current Trustee Sally Parker-Nash represents Subdistrict #2 and has filed to be re-elected to the Board. That seat includes portions of North St. Francois County, Ste. Genevieve County and Jefferson County.
Filings continue in the President’s office in the Fine Arts Building at MAC until Jan. 20, but the school will be closed for the holidays Dec. 24 through Jan. 5.
The Bismarck School Board has two seats up for election in April. The three-year terms of Stanley Jackson and Marshall Latham are both set to expire. Jackson and Latham both have filed for re-election. As of Thursday morning no challenger had filed.
Only one person has filed for the two seats up for grabs on the North County school board in April. Incumbent, Jack Poston has filed but the other current school board member, Charlie Farr, has decided not to run.
The Central School District has two seats up for election in April. The three-year terms of Jack Marler and Dennis “Dooley” Politte will expire. As of Thursday morning Politte and Ronnie Calvird had filed for the seats.
Desloge has three aldermen seats and the mayor’s position up for election. Ward I Alderman Jim “Yogi” Jones’ term is set to expire as is that of Ward II Alderman Chris Gremminger. Ward III Alderman Jerry “Hoghead” Hulsey’s seat is also up for election. Mayor David Kater’s term is also set to expire. Kater has filed for re-election to his mayoral position. All of the terms are for two years.
The City of Leadington might have a new mayor in April. The term of Larry Kennon is set to expire and he had not filed for re-election as of Thursday morning. In addition to Kennon’s position, the Ward I Alderman seat of Jim Hurt is set to open up as is the Ward II Alderman seat of Katrina Wakefield. Both Hurt and Wakefield have filed for re-election. The terms are for two years.
The City of Bismarck has two alderman seats up for election in April. The seats of Ward I Alderman LaDonna Haefner and Ward II Alderman Carol Baker are both up for election. Haefner has filed for re-election to her seat. Ryan Cantrell has also filed for the seat. Baker has filed for re-election. Steve Creek is challenging for the seat.
On the second day of filing, incumbent, Cindy Driemeier filed for Ward III in Bonne Terre. Driemeier’s and Lee Roy Calvert’s seats are both set to expire in April. Calvert filed for his Ward I seat on Tuesday.
Iron Mountain Lake has several positions open in the April election. Mayor Jodi Niccum’s term is set to expire. He was appointed mayor in July after Michael M. Juenger resigned. Niccum has filed for re-election. Whoever wins the mayoral election will serve out a one-year term.
Ward II Alderman Phil Fox’s term is also set to expire. He has filed for re-election for another two-year term. An additional one-year term is also available for Ward II. Linda Miller was the lone candidate for the seat as of Thursday morning.
Ward I Alderman Donnie May’s term is also set to expire. May filed for re-election for another two-year term. Josh Skaggs has also filed for the Ward I seat.
There are two vacant seats for Ward III that need to be filled. One is for a one-year term while the other is for a two-year term. No one had filed for the seats as of Thursday morning.
In Farmington, the ballot will include four, two-year terms on the City Council, a two-year term as city prosecutor, and a four-year term as mayor.
Incumbent Dennis Smith has filed for re-election in Ward III and incumbent Brad Covell has filed for re-election in Ward IV. Debbie Wilson has filed for the Ward II seat held by Vonne Phillips. No one has filed for the Ward I seat currently held by Jeff Firehammer.
Incumbent Jeannie Roberts has filed for the mayoral position, as has Stuart “Mit” Landrum Jr. and Keith Lay. City Prosecutor Kevan Karraker has filed for re-election.
Incumbent Ward I Allen Dalton has filed for re-election to the Leadwood Board of Aldermen in the April election and Bill Link has filed for the mayor’s position currently held by Jeff Mahurin. No one has filed for the Ward II seat currently held by Donnie Eaton.
Full term for each of those positions is two years.
Kenneth Crick has filed for one-year Ward I seat. Crick recently was appointed to the seat until April, after Alderman Patty Stahlman resigned.
The mayor’s seat and one seat in each of four City Council wards will be on the ballot for Park Hills. John A. Hagerty and Ward II Councilman David Easter have filed for the mayor’s seat, currently held by John Clark.
No one has filed for the Ward I Council seat currently held by Jeff Cunningham or the Ward II seat currently held by Linda Dickerson.
In Ward III, incumbent Tom Reed has filed for re-election and incumbent Larry Kelly has filed for re-election in Ward IV.
Incumbent Dennis Johnson has filed for the three-year term as commissioner of the St. Francois County Road District 2.
There are two, three-year terms available on the Farmington School Board. Incumbent Dennis Robinson, Incumbent Angela Hahn and David R. Buerck have filed.
Two, three-year terms will be on the ballet for West County School Board. Incumbent John French has filed for re-election. Jon Barlow also filed to be on the board. The other open seat currently is held by Rick Lawson.
