Celebrating Birthdays
Four of the 12 women who work at the Washington County Health Department are moms of new babies this Christmas. From left are Cara Sims RN (with Ella), Angie Harbison WIC Breast-Feeding Peer Counselor (with Chesney), Natasha Sullivan WIC Nutritionist (with Jackson) and Nissa Compton WIC Clerk (With Bryton). Since the WIC program emphasizes the importance of breast-feeding, Sullivan said it’s only appropriate that all four moms are breast-feeding, even her. “I had breast cancer seven years ago and they only gave the go-ahead for me to have a baby after four years on medication,” said Sullivan. “There was no guarantee I could get pregnant, but Jackson was born Nov. 12.” She said she tells new moms that breast-feeding reduces your risk of breast cancer or a reoccurrence of breast cancer by 30 percent. - Submitted photo
