Florida man killed in Washington County accident

A Florida man died Wednesday when the 2009 Dodge Charger in which he was riding failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck on the passenger side by a 1984 Ford van in Washington County.

Two other men in the accident were seriously injured.

According to Missouri Highway Patrol reports, Daniel P. Barbosa, 51, of Port Richey, Fla., was westbound on Route A at 4:20 p.m. when he failed to stop at the sign. He drove into the path of the van, which was driven by Union resident Perle E. Avery, 62, who was southbound on Highway 47. No residence was listed for Avery. The van struck the Dodge on the passenger side, killing Mitchell E. Bleile, 34, of Tampa, Fla.

Bleile, who had been wearing a seat belt, was taken from the scene by the Washington County coroner.

Avery and Barbosa were flown by air ambulance to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. According to the reports, Barbosa had been wearing a seat belt, but it was unknown whether Avery had.

Damage to the Dodge was listed as total and damage to the van was listed as moderate.

A Ste. Genevieve woman received minor injuries Thursday when her 2006 Chevrolet HHR was struck from behind by a 2006 Ford F 250 in Ste. Genevieve County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 3:50 p.m. on southbound Interstate 55, 1 mile south of Route O. A 2006 Ford F 250 driven by Perryville resident Craig J. Thieret, 48, was southbound on the highway when the front of the truck struck the rear of the Chevrolet driven by Barbara J. Sherry, 60. Her vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, struck a rock embankment and overturned.

Sherry was taken by ambulance to Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital. No injuries were listed for Thieret. Both had been wearing seat belts.

Damage to the Chevrolet was listed as total. Damage to the Ford was listed as minor.

A Bonne Terre man sustained minor injuries Friday when his vehicle was struck on Raider Road at VoTech Road. The Highway Patrol reports Steven L. Rion, 48, was taken by private conveyance to Parkland Health Center North after his 2004 Chevrolet Blazer was struck by a 1994 Chevrolet Astro driven by Curtis L. Hamor, 19, Bonne Terre. The report indicates Hamor failed to yield his eastbound vehicle to the southbound Blazer and they collided at the intersection about 7:30 a.m. Friday. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt.
