FRENCH VILLAGE — Police spent several hours looking for a man who fled from a deputy Monday morning.

Sheriff Dan Bullock said Deputy Tim Harris was notified that Christopher J. Reibe, who was wanted on several warrants, was near the Goose Creek gate.

When Harris attempted to approach Reibe, the 28-year-old French Village man drove to Whittaker Road off Koester Springs and then took off running. Harris used his canine partner, Bruno, to try to apprehend Reibe but the man got away.

Harris was then assisted by law enforcement officers from Bonne Terre, Desloge, St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Missouri Highway Patrol.

While searching the wooded area, officers spoke to family members and residents in the area, but still were not able to locate the man. The search was called off about 4 p.m.

According to police, Reibe is wanted for violating his probation or parole.

Reibe was sentenced to seven years in prison in February of 2005 for second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and for violating the probation he received for tampering with a service of utility or institution.

According to court records, Reibe caused serious injury to Deputy Steve Rion by pulling away and struggling with the deputy while being arrested for an outstanding warrant. The deputy dislocated his wrist and required surgery to correct the injury.
