PARK HILLS — The North boys scorched the nets for 35 points in the third quarter after trailing by 16 at halftime, and rallied past the South 101-96 in the eighth annual Daily Journal MAAA Senior All-Star Game.
Six players from each team reached double figures in a contest where offensive creativity was strongly encouraged, as uncontested dunk attempts and open jump shots were common in occurrence.
Ste. Genevieve standout Kory Faulkner earned Most Valuable Player honors with a game-high 24 points. His break-away slam capped the key momentum swing, and gave the North a 72-70 edge late in the third period.
West County forward Torey Watson finished with 17 points and Valle guard Michael Rozier added 15 in the victory. Rozier punctuated an 11-0 North run in the fourth quarter with back-to-back threes from the right side.
Ste. Genevieve forward Adam Roth had 13 points and North County guard Jordan Thompson netted 12 on four triples. Potosi center Tyler Shepard posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Farmington guard Bryan Krause easily paced the South in scoring with 22 points, including a 6-for-7 effort from the free-throw line. Krause received a midair boost from opposing player Faulkner to throw down a two-handed dunk late in the action.
The Knights were represented by six players, breaking an event record of five from Central in the inaugural 2002 game. Taylor Denman scored 12 points, Lance Miller totaled 11 and Korde Detring added 10, while Jared Clippard pulled down 12 boards.
Jacob Kearns of Valley tallied 13 points for the South. Central forward Cody Allen compiled 10 points plus a game-high 13 rebounds, and teammate Tony Martin scored nine.
Allen assisted when Krause finished a 2-on-1 break with a three-point play in the second quarter, then added one of his own before intermission by tipping in a missed shot and making the ensuing free throw.
A layup by Martin gave the South their greatest lead of 54-38 at the half, but Watson quickly led the North back with 10 points in the third quarter.
