Three area golfers qualify for State in Class 2

TERRE DU LAC — West County High School hosted the Class 2, District 1 Tournament at the Terre Du Lac Country Club on Tuesday, and when the last golfer signed his scorecard, one team and 10 other players had qualified for the next round of play — the State Tournament.

New Madrid County Central won the team rights with the lowest team score of 365. Arcadia Valley placed second at 370 and West County rang in at 426 for fifth place out of nine teams.

Tanner McKinley of Clearwater was medalist with a one-over 73. Zach Fester of Steelville, David Abolt of Cuba and Lance Baker of Dixon tied for the second lowest score of 81.

Torey Watson of West County shot an 84 to qualify him for the third straight year for the state meet. Blake Walker and Eric Bennett of Arcadia Valley both scored a 90 to also qualify.

Others qualifying for the state meet were Caleb Moss - Caruthersville, Aaron Mahurin - Steelville, and Brian Mathis - Dixon. The cut-off score was 92.

The Class 2 State Tournament will be held on May 18-19 at the Sedalia Country Club in Sedalia.

Fredericktown 182, North County 186

FREDERICKTOWN
— In a conference dual meet on Wednesday, the Fredericktown Blackcats bested the North County Raiders 182-186 at the Fredericktown Golf Course.

Logan Ward was medalist with a 42 to lead the Blackcats to their first win (1-8) and first conference win (1-5). Ben Kline shot a 45 and Caleb Matthews scored a 46.

Cameron Claywell led the Raiders with a 44 and Ryan Aubuchon scored a 46.

Fredericktown will be home again this afternoon to host Valle, and North County (2-6 and 1-6 MAAA) will play next on Monday in the Conference Tournament at Crown Pointe.
