A former Bonne Terre man was found guilty in federal court this week of possessing a machine gun.
Guy David Allen, 41, was indicted by a federal grand jury in February. His trial was held before a jury this week. He was found guilty Thursday and taken into custody.
His sentencing is scheduled Sept. 4 before Judge Jean Hamilton. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.
The indictment alleged that Allen was in possession of one or more machine guns on Feb. 14, 2008, in St. Francois County.
The man was already charged in the county with three counts of child molestation, two counts of statutory sodomy, and one count of misdemeanor child molestation. Those charges are still pending.
According to prior police reports, the weapons were found while St. Francois County deputies were working on an ongoing investigation into sex abuse. They handed over three guns to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
At the time of the arrest, St. Francois County Det. Russ Qualls said a woman who had been living with the suspect told police when she kicked the man out, he left several guns behind and she didn’t feel comfortable with the guns there. Deputies made two trips to the residence and found 20 handguns and hunting guns, as well as what appeared to be two fully automatic weapons.
The guns included an M3 grease gun, and a Sten submachine gun.
“We appreciate the cooperation we have had throughout this case and other cases with the (ATF) and the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” said Sheriff Dan Bullock.
Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap commended the work on the case by the St. Francois County Sheriff, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Assistant United States Attorneys John Sauer and Cristian Stevens, who prosecuted the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
