Sixth-inning rally lands Rockies in first place

POTOSI — The Leadwood Rockies pushed two decisive runs across the plate in the sixth inning, and assumed first place in the MABA Junior Babe Ruth National Division by defeating the Potosi Pumas, 3-1 on Monday evening.
Zac Turner recorded seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits while going the distance for the win. He retired eight consecutive batters after working around two walks during the first inning.
Jake Coleman finished 2-for-3 and fueled two scoring rallies for the Rockies (9-2), who overcame several blunders on the base paths. Three runners were caught stealing and another attempting to advance on a fly ball.
Kyle Harrison added another single and drew a lead-off walk against Pumas hurler Jacob Middleton in the sixth. A ground ball by Turner was misplayed at third, and runners stood at the corners with no outs.
Coleman blooped the shallow go-ahead single behind the second baseman, and Josh Conway increased the lead with a deep RBI triple to the left-center fence.
Coleman scored the initial run of the game on a throwing error after his double began the second inning. Justin Lashley and Turner also singled as the Rockies totaled six hits without committing a defensive miscue.
The Pumas remained hitless until the fourth when a two-out flurry evened the score at 1-1. Malugen singled and sprinted from first base on a RBI double from Kyle Ramsey.
Middleton fanned two batters over six innings and Malugen pitched a scoreless seventh for the Pumas (7-2).
Giants 11, Cats 2
PARK HILLS — Dale Mosier pitched a dominant one-hitter with six strikeouts and Zack Manford went 3-for-3 at the plate Monday night, as the Park Hills Giants cruised past the Fredericktown Cats 11-2.
Garrett Manion and Levi Ragsdale each had a triple among two hits, and Anthony Quinton doubled for the Giants (9-3). Riley Calvird, Reid Lucas, Collin Manion and Mosier chipped in singles.
Brady Brewen notched the lone Fredericktown hit with a triple in the fourth inning.
Hounds 20, Bruins 9
FARMINGTON — The Farmington Hounds pounced for five runs in each of the first two innings and six more in the fifth, and maintained their American Division lead on Monday with a 20-9 triumph over the cross-town Bruins.
Jimmy Moore, Sam Thompson and Rider Garrett each finished 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Hounds (10-2). Evan Dunivan also singled twice and Jake Rhodes had two hits with a double.
Dante Castro and Jared Dunlap also collected hits and Blake Archer allowed two runs on the mound for the win.
Brian Harman highlighted the Bruins’ offense with a three-run triple. Taylor Phegley added a RBI single and Aaron Maize picked up a sacrifice fly.
Cubs 12, Red Sox 6
BONNE TERRE — Derek Mitchell drove in three runs on four hits and Justin Ruby added three singles with two RBI on Monday, as the North County Cubs downed the rival Red Sox 12-6 for their third straight victory.
Drew Rhodes singled twice and Kaleb Warden doubled, while Mitchell pitched four innings in relief for the win. Austin Johnson, Garrett Coffman and Zach Franklin also netted hits for the Cubs (4-6).
Jesse Schwent ripped two singles and Levi Moss doubled for the Red Sox (5-6).
Tigers 13, Wildcats 3
Tigers 18, Widcats 5
BISMARCK — The Bismarck Tigers surged back above the .500 mark at 7-5 on Monday night with a pair of sizable victories over the Caledonia Wildcats.
Logan Blunt compiled 12 strikeouts in a three-hitter over six innings as the Tigers claimed game one 13-3. Wyatt Boyer and Klayton Loughary each had two doubles and a single
Jake Swain and Shane Horn also collected multiple hits, and Cody Miles tripled in the victory. Taylor Rodgers doubled for the Wildcats.
Horn scattered four hits and fanned eight batters in the second contest, as the Tigers rolled to an 18-5 triumph. Jeff Phillips had three hits including a triple, and Tyler Pearl added two singles.
Rodgers smashed a home run and also doubled for the Wildcats. Matt Maxwell, Robert Akers and Nick Province each had singles.
CAL RIPKEN LEAGUE
Knights 12, Stingers 1
FARMINGTON — Brendan Ferris collected four RBI on a home run and double Monday night, and the Farmington Knights punctuated their superb summer campaign with a 12-1 victory over the Potosi Stingers.
Trent Wideman finished a perfect 3-for-3 and Mike Pinkley finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored to lead the Knights (14-3). Jordan Ankrom pitched three scoreless innings with no hits allowed and seven strikeouts.
Dustin Douglas picked up a RBI single and Jacob Nicholson fanned three batters for the Stingers.
