ST. LOUIS (AP) — Todd Wellemeyer threw hard and was pain-free Tuesday in his first official bullpen session since going on the disabled list.
The St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher hasn’t been told what comes next.
Wellemeyer has been on the DL since Aug. 11 with elbow inflammation. His 40-pitch session came not long before first-round pick Shelby Miller’s turn in the bullpen with the front office watching intently.
Wellemeyer, 7-9 with a 5.67 ERA, threw 40 pitches and said now it’s a matter of getting his timing and rhythm back. The Cardinals are likely to schedule a second session before activating the right-hander or sending him on a rehab assignment.
