MAC volleyball team notches home win

PARK HILLS — Freshman Rachel Kleekamp knocked down 14 kills and the Mineral Area College volleyball team defeated a strong Lake Land squad 25-16, 28-26, 21-25, 25-20 home victory on Friday night.

Tisha Meyer made 36 assists and Kelsey Davault brought up 18 digs for the Lady Cardinals, who improved to 11-3 overall. Monika Barros de Alcantara served five aces in the win.

Mineral Area will host Meramec in a conference match on Wednesday before competing in the Illinois Central Tournament next weekend.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

Steelville 2, Valley 1

CALEDONIA — The Valley volleyball team dominated the start of its home match against Steelville on Friday night, but the Lady Cardinals rallied for a hard-fought 10-25, 27-25, 27-25 victory.

Lora Beth Ward knocked down a team-high 11 kills, and Jessica Crocker totaled eight kills with four blocks for the Lady Vikings (1-4).

Katie Halbert dished out 11 assists and Kaitlin Holbert made nine, while Megan Midgett served 20 points.
