ARCADIA — The Farmington Knightettes tennis team finished their conference season once again at 8-0 in the MAAA after a 9-0 win over the Arcadia Valley Lady Tigers on Wednesday. It marks the 46th conference win in a row dating back to September 8, 2004 when the conference was made up of six teams.

The Knightettes won their 10th straight conference crown dating back to 1999 when the Lady Tigers were the last team other than Farmington to win a conference title.

The Knightettes were spotted two singles wins and one doubles win to start the meet with the Lady Tigers empty in their No. 5 and 6 spots.

Katie Brady handled the No. 1 singles with an 8-1 win over Alyssa Waddell. Kayla Edgar shut out Kassie Leahy in No. 2 singles. No. 3 Montana Patterson downed Rachel Reynolds 8-3, and Kylee Allen won 8-1 over Cassie Wickerham in the No. 4 singles match.

Mackenzie Coleman joined Edgar for an 8-6 win over Waddell and Leahy in No. 1 doubles, and Brady and Patterson shut out Reynolds and Wickerham in the No. 2 doubles match.

Farmington will host Charleston this afternoon, and Arcadia Valley will play next in the conference tournament at Farmington on October 1.

SOFTBALL

Farmington 8, Fredericktown 3

FREDERICKTOWN
— The Farmington Knightettes softball team staked claim to half of the MAAA conference crown as they defeated the Fredericktown Lady Cats 8-3 in a make-up game on Wednesday to hold a one -game edge on North County and Central with only one game left to play. The win also assures the Knightettes of a first-round bye in the conference tournament starting on Monday.

Farmington (10-5) will travel to Ste. Genevieve this afternoon, and with a win, the Knightettes will clinch the title outright. A loss will tie them with the winner of this afternoon’s Central at North County game, and both teams will share the crown.

Erin Littrell pitched the win for Farmington allowing only four hits and striking out five batters. The Knightettes totaled 12 hits themselves. Trailing 2-1, Mikaela Westbrook (3-3) had the big hit with a home run in the second inning to score two runs and give Farmington the lead for good.

Littrell and Natalie Hoehn were both 2-4, with Littrell hitting a double. Allie Trask, Taylor Bene, and Katherine Sitzes were all 1-3, and Katie Currington and Rachel Porter were both 1-4. Miriah Korokis was 2-2 and scored two runs, and Alyssa Allgier was 1-3 and scored the third run.

Fredericktown (7-11) will travel to Potosi this afternoon for their conference finale.

Fredericktown 3, Sikeston 2

FREDERICKTOWN
— Before playing Farmington in softball on Wednesday, the Lady Cats took on the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs in a non-conference game and they hung on to capture a 3-2 win.

Anna Godsey pitched the entire game, giving up six hits and striking out two batters.  Both Sikeston runs were unearned.

Haley Stevens led the way with the bat, going 2-3. Miriah Korokis, Alyssa Buxton, Kirsten Williams were all 1-3, and Taylor Sutton finished the game at 1-2.

De Soto 4, Ste. Genevieve 1

DE SOTO
— The Ste. Genevieve Hunters tallied their lone run in the top of the first inning, and saw their lead disappear in the third as the De Soto Lady Dragons scored three runs on their way to  a 4-1 non-conference win.

The Hunters only managed three hits in the game with Alicia Viox hitting an RBI double, and Leticia Hindrichs and Natalie Diesel having one hit each. Hindrichs pitched the entire game with three strikeouts and she gave up seven hits.

“It was the best defensive game we’ve had all year,” said Ste. Genevieve coach Dennis Kreitler. The Hunters did not commit one error in the game.

Ste. Genevieve (5-13) will host Farmington this afternoon.

FALL BASEBALL

West County 10, Bismarck 8

FRANKCLAY
— The West County Bulldogs spotted the Bismarck Indians nine runs in the first three innings, and came back to win the game 10-9.

The Indians walked 10 times and put together a couple of key hits to take what looked like an insurmountable lead.
