PARK HILLS — In Monday’s article in the Daily Journal, which described the area’s Class 3 possibilities for each of the four teams making the playoffs, the only part which was left out was the actual point differentials needed for each team. After a thorough going over and several hours of adjustment and readjustment the following list has been composed.
If you should attend one of tonight’s games or listen to it on the radio, when the final horn goes off you can figure the District’s outcome by checking out the lists below.
So far, the district standings look like this: Potosi (2-0) +14; Fredericktown (1-1) +0; Central (1-1) -3; Ste. Genevieve (0-2) -11.
A team receives the points they win or lose by in each game with a maximum of plus or minus 13 for each game. The points only come into play if there is a three-way tie. Once the three-way tie is broken, the head-to-head contest between the two remaining teams is used.
All two-way ties are decided by their head-to-head game. Winner of an overtime game only receives one point and the loser receives a minus one point.
Tonight’s games of Potosi at Central and Ste. Genevieve at Fredericktown will break down this way:
• If Potosi and Fredericktown both win, they will both make the playoffs. Potosi 3-0 will be the district winner, and Fredericktown 2-1 will be runner-up. Central would then be 1-2 and Ste. Genevieve 0-3.
• If Central and Ste. Genevieve both win, then Central 2-1 would be the district champion and Potosi 2-1 would go as the runner-up. Fredericktown and Ste. Genevieve would both finish 1-2.
• If Central and Fredericktown should both win, it would mean a three-way tie with Potosi, all at 2-1, and Ste. Genevieve would be out at 0-3. The point totals for each team would determine who would be the district champion with the runner-up decided by who won the other two teams’ head-to-head game (see below).
• If Potosi and Ste. Genevieve both win, Potosi would be district champ at 3-0 and the other three would be tied at 1-2. The team with the most points would go as the runner-up (see below).
