FARMINGTON — Police responded to a duplex on Potosi Street where two residents died in separate apartments of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

The body of a 67-year-old woman was found about 7 Thursday morning after police were called to the home. Police Chief Rick Baker said both homes were locked up and there was no sign of forced entry at either residence.

Shortly after the body of the woman was found, an 82-year-old man was found about 10:30 a.m. He was found after family members called and tried to reach him and got no answer then called the police.

After the police arrived they found his car in the garage with the door shut and the key in the on position with a dead battery. Baker said it appears as if the car was left running with the garage door shut.

The fire department checked the carbon monoxide levels and found that there was a lethal amount in both homes. Both bodies were taken to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center where they will do further testing on the cause of death.

Their names had not yet been released at this time and Baker noted that he was not sure when the results of the tests would come back from the lab.

Thanks for the correct info sfc, we probably never would have known the actual truth. Not with the ace reporters we have in this county. How do you know so much about what happened? Just curious?

where were they found? Was the guy in the car? Or in the house?

They were not discovered within minutes of each other. The Fire Dept was canceled before arriving on the first victim. Carbon Monoxide was not even considered as a cause at that time. No limits were checked in the first apartment at that time. The second call was almost 4 hours later when the family couldn't get a hold of the gentleman and another family member went to check.

I guess I'm a little concerned it took them so long to discover the 82 y/o. How soon after arriving did they figure out it was carbon monoxide?

Since when has 67 years old been considered elderly? I am in my 30's and dont think it is anywhere near elderly.
