The Farmington R-7 School District recently hosted the Beginning Teacher Assistance workshop for the Southeast Regional Professional Development Center. All beginning teachers are required to attend a beginning teacher assistance workshop during their first year in the classroom.
The workshop is to provide new teachers with information to improve their first year and to allow them to discover resources that could help them through their teaching career. The workshop at Farmington included information on how to write quality objectives, how to increase the levels of thinking in the classroom, write quality assessments, and issues related to the law and teachers, and how to prepare for substitutes.
There were 56 new teachers in attendance from 11 different school districts including schools as far away as South Pemiscot and Kennett. Presenters for the workshop included Roblyn Hatch, Todd Varhalla, and Kim Amsden (Farmington R-7 Instructional and Curriculum Coordinators), Cindy Presnell, Assistant Superintendent, and Becky Rider from the Southeast Regional Professional Development Center.
