The Farmington Police Department was called out Sunday morning to investigate an accident that resulted in a 17-year-old Farmington resident being arrested on five separate charges.

According to Farmington Police Chief Rick Baker, at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday the police department received a call about someone leaving the scene of an accident. When the officers arrived there was a 1994 Dodge Shadow overturned in the area of Wallace Road and Potosi Street After talking to witnesses, the officers discovered the driver had been a 17-year-old male who lives on Potosi Street and the car belonged to his mother.

Apparently the driver was driving westbound on Wallace Road, traveled off the road to the left and hit an electrical junction box and then came back on the roadway. He then turned left onto Potosi Street and turned around to go south toward Wallace Road. At that point he apparently hit the second electrical junction box and mailboxes, then the car rolled onto its top.

The driver was not injured but after the police found his home and talked to both him and his mother, he was arrested. Baker said he was arrested on five charges including careless and imprudent driving, failure to show insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, property damage and operating a vehicle without a license.

The report will be sent to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office for review.
