Searchers were able to find two women who became lost while hiking at St. Francois State Park Tuesday.
Sheriff Dan Bullock said two young women started hiking at about 3 p.m. They got turned around and were unable to find their way back to the trail before the sun went down.
He said they did not have a flashlight. The women called 911 and remained on the phone with a dispatcher for three hours while searchers tried to find them.
Bullock said they were eventually able to get coordinates from the cell phone and use a GPS to find them just after 8 p.m.
The St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department, park rangers, firefighters, St. Francois County Joint Communications/Central Dispatch, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol participated in the search.
