PARK HILLS — The curtains will open tonight for Central High School’s rendition of “An Evening of Culture: Faith County II.” The three-act comedic play performed by the Rebel Theatre Troupe will open at 7 p.m. An encore performance will be held 7 p.m. on Friday.

The play features a cast of eight. Director Jamie Weiss said they are a mix of seasoned actors and actors who are making their stage debut.

“It’s about half and half,” he said. “They have given a dedicated effort for the two months they have been rehearsing.”

The play centers around a group of small town misfits who are putting on the play “Romeo and Juliet.”

Weiss said the biggest challenge the production has faced is battling illness at various times. He said other than that, because of the cast and crew’s dedication, the play has gone very well.

Macy Edgar had the dilemma of learning the most lines in cast. She portrays Mildred Carson. Edgar described her character as someone who is mean and hateful. She said it wasn’t challenging to step into her role because in real life she likes to be in charge and is bossy.

Dustin Uding will portray a pig farmer named Delbert Fink on stage. Fink likes to built stuff, according to Uding. He said it was also an easy transition stepping into character.

Katelynn West did the homework for her character Ruthann Barns while attending church each Sunday.

“I play a reverend’s wife,” she said. “She is very sweet and caring. I go to church with a lot of sweet old ladies so I’ve used them for my inspiration.

One cast member said Weiss did a good job of casting the play because he looked for personality traits in the cast that would match the personality traits of the characters they portray.

Other cast members include Sarah Jones as Violet Farkle, Jordyn Weiss as Faye McFaye, Lauren Smith as Naomi Farkle Carson, Lucas Robinson as Luther Carson and Zach Lardarello as Bubba Bedford.

The play is by Mark Landon Smith. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens.
