Stephanie Rohlfs-Young of the St. Louis Alzheimer’s Association said next year’s walk will be held Sept. 25. The change was made partly because MAC is more centrally located in the county and the campus will be safer for walking.
She said Dean Jean Merrill-Doss has agreed to serve on the Memory Walk committee.
This year’s walk was a big success. With the Hawaii vacation fundraiser included, the local walk raised $40,000.
Camelot Nursing and Rehab was the top fundraising team, collecting $3,605. Parkland Health Center raised $3,502. Alison Sheets of Presbyterian Manor was listed as the top fundraising individual, turning in $1,334.
Alzheimer’s has no cure and is the seventh leading cause of death. As many as 5.3 million people in the United States are living with the disease. A new person develops the disease every 70 seconds.
