The fourth annual Help the Hungry Bake Sale will take place Saturday. Many community churches, groups and residents are helping bake and donate items to raise money for the local food pantries.
The bake sale begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and will last until 1 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic School gym. There will be activities for participants and baked items to purchase. The canned food items collected and money raised from the sale of baked goods will benefit the Ministerial Alliance and St. Vincent De Paul food pantries.
Holiday Decorating chance ticket sales will begin at 9 a.m. Ticket winners will be announced at completion of the live auction. The items are donated by area residents and businesses to help decorate a home for the holidays. Items to be won include:
• A Fall Centerpiece by Expressions by Dennis;
• Blessings Plaque by Friends of Country;
• Large Fall Wreath by Butterfields Florist;
• Christmas Tree skirt by Oasis Christian Bookstore;
• Wreath by Winnie Nelson;
• Christmas Wreath by Ivy and Twigs;
• Several Wreaths by Kim Bohnenkamp and Janet Tifennauer;
• Christmas Wreath by Country Memories;
• Thomas Kinkead Lighted Centerpiece by Ike’s Country Boutique;
• Wreath donated by KTJJ designed by Mike Carrow;
• Wreath by Judy Sheets;
• Holiday Item by Botaniques on the Square, and;
• Holiday Item from Just Nana’s.
One big event that raises a lot of money for the bake sale is the silent and live auctions. The silent auction will last from 9-11 a.m., and the winners will be announced at 11:15 a.m. You must be present to win.
The live auction will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Mark Toti auctioning off items. The list of auction items includes:
• Serious Chocolate –The winning bidder gets to choose four premium chocolate desserts of their choice throughout the coming year. Possibilities include three layer chocolate cake with butter cream frosting, devils food cake with coconut-macadamia caramel sauce, and much more. One week’s notice. Donated by: Chris Landrum

The cafe will open at 8 a.m. before the doors to the bake sale open and will have breakfast and lunch items and carry-out chili. The cake walk begins at 9:15 a.m. and every 15 minutes visitors can walk around the giant cupcake. A free turkey cookie decorating will be available for kids. The Cooking Clergy Contest will begin at 10 a.m. with area pastors competing to win the most money for their baked items. During that the day visitors can buy homemade baked goods such as fresh bread, cookies, cakes, pies, candies, dry mixes and more.
Those attending can bring a canned food item and receive one 50 cent coupon off any baked sale item.
In addition to Help The Hungry Bake Sale, others are also joining together to help the area food pantries.
Canyon Concrete will hold their second annual “Fill Our Truck.” It will be held Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 202 Industrial Dr. in Farmington. Bring in five canned or boxed food items and receive a barbecue lunch and cake. Drop off 20 items to enter for a chance to win $400 worth of gift certificates to Farmington area businesses.
Donated items can include canned Pasta, canned Veggies, canned Fruit, boxed Dinners, paper products, toothpaste or anything else non-perishable. Donations can be dropped off at Canyon Concrete's office, or call (573) 756-7370 for more information. All donations will be matched in value by Canyon Concrete.
Then on Dec. 4, Rob Thomas, owner of Celebrations, will be hosting a canned food drive from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at his store downtown. Thomas is also looking for other businesses or individuals to partner by donating items or time to help raise money and canned food items for the food pantries.
He will be handing out his famous barbecue sandwiches to those bringing in money or canned food or non-perishable food items to his store on Dec. 4.
