North County Assistant Superintendent and Director of Transportation Mike Jarvis has announced he plans to retire in July.
Jarvis came to North County from Central at the beginning of the 2006-07 school year. He had been an elementary school principal at Central. In 2003, Jarvis was selected as the Southeast Missouri Distinguished Principal of the Year.
Before Central, he worked in the Potosi School District.
According to a press release issued by the school district on Wednesday, Jarvis is leaving North County in much different circumstances than when he started.
“He was instrumental in the realignment of the elementary schools, which consolidated grade levels throughout the district,” the press release reads. “His efforts and support were also a key factor in the successful bond issue and the new Parkside Elementary addition, currently under construction.
Officials said he has served the district tirelessly, striving to improve instruction and student performance. “We want to thank him for a job well done and wish him well on his upcoming retirement.”
Jarvis said he and his wife plan to do some traveling. They have a granddaughter in another state that they’d like to spend more time with.
