Make your money work for you

If you want to learn how to make your money work for you, a free course being offered to Missourians can help.

University of Missouri Extension, the Missouri Secretary of State, and the Investor Protection Trust are cosponsoring a program called Safeguard Your Savings that teaches people to use savings, investing and retirement planning in order to have financial security.

The three-hour course includes three hours of education from University of Missouri faculty. Taught by consumer economics specialists Suzanne Gellman MS, JD and Michael Ravenscraft, MS, CPA, the course also includes a workbook, other educational materials and light refreshments.

The class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 9 at the North College Center at Mineral Area College, 5270 Flat River Road, Park Hills.

Classroom training gives participants the knowledge and skills to understand and manage their financial assets. Subjects taught will include: Savings and investing stocks, bonds, understanding mutual funds, asset allocation, diversification, retirement planning and avoiding investment fraud.
