    Bismarck tie is official
    BISMARCK — The tie is official for the Ward I Alderman seat in Bismarck. St. Francois County Clerk Mark Hedrick said Tuesday’s election results were certified on Thursday and the outcome was a 40-40 tie between LaDonna Haefner and Kim Gibbons.
    Problem causes delay in trustee election
    As of press time the word of who would fill a vacancy on the Mineral Area College Board of Trustees was still not known. The Ste. Genevieve County Clerk's Office was reporting a problem with vote totals, and said it would likely be sometime Wednesday before a final number would be available. The MAC Board of Trustees Fredericktown sub-district included voters in Madison County, as well as a smaller number of voters in Ste. Genevieve and St. Francois counties.
    New mayors take office in four cities
    Four cities, Farmington, Iron Mountain Lake, Leadwood and Park Hills elected new mayors Tuesday. Six cities had new and returning council members.
    Contentious races bring out voters
    Every voter had an issue on the ballot this time, but not every voter voted. Turnout for the election was 20.5 percent — better than usual, but still not a majority of registered voters.
    Road Improvement Tax passes
    Voters gave the St. Francois County Road Improvement Tax a big thumbs up in the Tuesday election, approving the measure by 5,023 (75 percent) votes to 1,744 (26 percent).
    Voters pass North County bond issue
    Voters in the North County School District passed a bond issue which will allow the district to replace the elementary school that was built in 1911.
    New, old faces return to local school boards
    Some new faces and some returning faces will be in charge of local school districts following Tuesday night’s election. All five of the county’s school districts had contested board races.
    Leadwood tax levy goes down in flames
    Voters on Tuesday turned down a request by the Leadwood Fire Protection District for a 50-cent tax levy that would allow the district to hire a paid firefighter and offset rising costs of maintenance.

    Voters to choose new MAC Trustee
    When current MAC Trustee Elvin Sikes chose not to run for re-election, after serving the district for 30 years, three candidates came forward to vie for the single, 6-year term — Kent Marler, Scott Sikes and William Wright.
    Four seek two seats on West County Board
    Four candidates will vie for two, three-year terms on the West County School Board.
    Two seats open for Bonne Terre Council
    Lee Roy Calvert is seeking another term on the Bonne Terre City Council for Ward I.
    Four run for two North County board seats
    There are two seats available on the North County school board and four people running. They are Incumbent John (Jack) Poston, Janet Barton, Mark Westbrooks, and Terry Cole. The term is for three years.
    Two vie for Desloge Ward III
    Desloge is in the midst of finishing up a new water system, is constructing a new outer road and they’ve had a number of new businesses locate in the city over the past few years.
    Leadwood Fire District asks for 50-cent tax levy
    The Leadwood Fire Protection District is asking voters to approve a 50-cent tax levy that would allow the district to hire a paid firefighter and offset rising costs of maintenance. Fire district members say the levy would benefit residents through shorter response times during the day and lower building insurance rates.
    Five square off for Farmington School Board seats
    The Farmington School District has two three-year seats to be filled in the April 7 election. Incumbents Dennis Robinson and Angela Hahn face challengers David Buerck, John Sanders and Jane Bates.
    Leadwood has race for mayor
     In Leadwood, there is a race for the mayoral seat. Incumbent Allen Dalton and Kenneth Crick are unopposed in their bids for re-election to their Ward 1 seats. Incumbent Donnie Eaton has filed for re-election in Ward II.
    Farmington to elect mayor, council member
    The city of Farmington has a race for the mayor’s seat with Stuart “Mit” Landrum, Jr. challenging incumbent Mayor Jeannie Roberts. Two candidates, incumbent Brad Covell and Joe McMillen are seeking the Ward 4 councilman seat. Covell was appointed to fill an uncompleted term in June 2008.
    Park Hills voters choose new mayor, two council seats
    Park Hills voters will decide a race for the mayor’s seat along with two city council races in Park Hills.
    Mayor, five aldermen seats open in Iron Mountain Lake
    Iron Mountain Lake has several positions open in the April election. Mayor Jodi Niccum’s term is set to expire. He was appointed mayor in July after Michael M. Juenger resigned. Niccum has filed for re-election. Whoever wins the mayoral election will serve out a one-year term. Eugene Henson has also filed for mayor.
    Voters to decide on renewing Road improvement Tax
    The county has about 400 miles of roads to maintain and in the year 2010 the tax that has supported that maintenance is expiring. The quarter cent sales tax has been in existence since 1985 and has not been increased in all that time.
    Five seek Central School Board seats
    Five people are seeking two seats on the Central School Board. The term is for three years. Among those seeking office are incumbent Dennis Politte, Ronnie Calvird, Jeff Cunningham, Ed Gammon and Dallas Bryant.
    Two seats open on Bismarck School Board
    The Bismarck School Board has two seats up for election in April. The three-year terms of Stanley Jackson and Marshall Latham are both set to expire. Jackson and Latham have both filed for re-election. Glen Ketcherside and Dennis Blunt have also filed for the seats.
    Three seek Ambulance District seat
    The St. Francois County Ambulance District faces rapid growth in the county and a generally increasing call load. It employs 38 full-time paramedics, five full-time EMTs, a maintenance mechanic and 25 part-time paramedics and EMTs.
    Two aldermen positions in Bismarck
    The City of Bismarck has two alderman seats up for election in April. The seats of Ward I Alderman LaDonna Haefner and Ward II Alderman Carol Baker are both up for election. Haefner has filed for re-election to her seat. Ryan Cantrell, Kim Gibbons and Mark McKinney have also filed for the seat. Baker has filed for re-election.
    North County asks voters for no tax increase bond issue
    DESLOGE — A entire class of third graders walk down the hallway to get from one part of school, which houses classrooms and the principal’s office, to the other part of school which houses the multipurpose room and a whole other wing of classrooms.
