The current school, known as UniTec, would move from the North County District to the college. To do that, voters will have to pass a bond issue for the purpose of “acquiring, constructing, furnishing and equipping an Area Vocational Technical School.” The decision to buy the bonds will mean a 5-cent increase in the tax levy to 18 cents per $100 valuation for property owners in the college’s taxing district. That money would be used to pay the interest and principal on the bonds as they fall due within 20 years from the date they’re issued.
