District addressing drug use concerns
The community has recently experienced a couple drug-related deaths and the Farmington School District is working to hopefully diminish the problem.
Fire station construction approvedMembers of the Farmington City Council gave final approval Monday evening for the construction of a $3,000,000 fire station downtown.

Remembering PaulFarmington V.F.W. Post 5896 recently unveiled a portrait of one of its past members, Paul Ketcherside, Jr., a decorated Vietnam Veteran who died 39 years ago. The portrait was presented to his sister Barbara Ketcherside , shown in center, by Mike White, President of Camp Hope, shown on right, and Tony Carroll, Post Commander, shown on left. The portrait was drawn and donated by world renowned artist Michael G. Reagan. As a portrait artist for more than 30 years, Reagan has drawn approximately 10,000 portraits including over 1,500 portraits of celebrities, professional athletes, U.S. presidents and heads of state. In addition, Reagan has drawn 1,800 portraits of soldiers for family members through the Fallen Heroes Project. - Submitted photo
Community choir to perform Friday nightMineral Area College’s choirs will be singing everything from Renaissance to Romantic to Modern when they perform in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church.

District addresses AYP shorfall, hands out honorsThe Farmington R-7 Board of Education met Tuesday evening for their regular monthly meeting. They honored a retiree, recognized a Blue Ribbon school, went over the first quarter budget and enrollment, and approved the Farmington High School drum line to attend a national convention in Indianapolis.

Developer cashing in receipts for TIFA few years ago Gundaker Development worked to secure a Tax Increment Financing, or TIF, district to aide in the development of a new shopping center at the corner of Maple Street and U.S. 67. Now the developer has come back to the city looking to be reimbursed for spending, as allowed in that earlier agreement.
