Snow gets late start in the Parkland
The snow started falling at about 2 p.m. Monday, but it didn't start sticking until late evening. St. Louis National Weather Service Meteorologist said that was because temperatures hovered at about 32 degrees for the majority of the day. He said as the sun went down, the temperatures started to fall and that's when the snow started to stick. By 9 p.m. temperatures had fallen into the high 20s.

Board puts Wakefield on administrative leave
LEADINGTON – Leadington Police Chief Cledith Wakefield has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a board of aldermen closed session meeting scheduled for tonight. Mayor Troy Dickens made the decision to put Wakefield on administrative leave on Friday. He said the board will decide tonight if Wakefield's suspension will continue and for how long.

Desloge aldermen say no to pseudoephedrine ordinance
DESLOGE – The Desloge Board of Aldermen said yes to a resolution that will be sent to the state legislature in favor of a state law that would require a prescription for the purchase of  any medication containing pseudoephedrine, but said no to a city ordinance that would have required one. Alderman Alvin Sutton was only alderman who voted in favor of the ordinance.

During tonight’s regular monthly meeting, the Park Hills City Council will conduct two public hearings regarding separate annexations, review bids for a drainage ditch project, and consider an amendment to the city’s animal ordinances.

Flue Fire Damages Home
A flue fire damages the family room and attic of a house on School Street in Desloge at about noon Sunday. There was smoke, heat and water damage to the rest of the house, which is owned by Rick Long. Parkland supports United Way
More employees than ever before at Parkland Health Center in Farmington and Bonne Terre are choosing to support the United Way of St. Francois County. The hospital hosted its first United Way campaign in 2009 and increased employee donations through payroll deductions by more than 75 percent.

Forecast calls for 3-5 inches of snow
The bulk of the snow isn’t expected to hit the Parkland until late this afternoon, but by the time it stops early Tuesday morning 3-5 inches of accumulation is expected. Temperatures will also plunge into the teens during the overnight hours.

Busy day at Home Expo
FARMINGTON — The consensus Saturday at the Home and Outdoor Expo at the Farmington Civic Center was Friday night’s winter weather kept people away during the morning hours, but as the day progressed so did the crowd. The expo was originally scheduled for Jan. 30-31, but was postponed due to inclement weather. About 66 vendors have booths at the event.

Desloge to discuss regulating cold medications
DESLOGE — The Desloge Board of Aldermen will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at city hall to discuss an ordinance that will regulate the sale of over the counter medications that contain ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. The board discussed at it’s January meeting requiring a prescription from a doctor to purchase such medications. The board will also discuss the “Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday” and will discuss an ordinance that would ban lead in public and private drinking water plumbing.
